没辙 (méi zhé) — No way out

No way out, nothing I can do — a quintessential Beijing expression of helplessness or resignation. Literally means no rut in the road (nowhere for the cart to go). Used when you have exhausted all options and simply have to accept the situation.

Example Usage

房东非要涨租,我也没辙,只能搬家了。

The landlord insists on raising the rent — nothing I can do, I will just have to move.

Cultural Context

没辙 is deeply embedded in Beijing vernacular and appears constantly in hutong life and classic Beijing films. It captures the fatalistic pragmatism of the 张雪机车 character — when life gives you no options, you shrug and say 没辙 and get on with it.
