应援 (yìng yuán) — Fan Support / Fan Rally

Fan Support / Fan Rally

Example Usage

粉丝们通宵应援,终于帮偶像冲过了斩杀线!

The fans rallied through the night and finally pushed their idol past the kill line!

Cultural Context

Borrowed from Japanese idol culture (応援, ōen), 应援 refers to organized fan support activities: voting campaigns, streaming coordination, buying merchandise, matching light sticks and banners, and running fan accounts. During idol competition shows where rankings determine survival past the 斩杀线, 应援 takes on life-or-death intensity — fan clubs organize all-night voting marathons and coordinated streaming sessions. 应援物 are the physical goods (light sticks, fan banners, photocards) made for a specific idol or event. The scale can be enormous: top idol fan clubs spend millions of yuan on 应援 campaigns.
